"The nation which indulges toward another an habitual hatred or an habitual fondness is in some degree a slave. It is a slave to its animosity or to its affection, either of which is sufficient to lead it astray from its duty and its interest." -George Washington

Witness every World War, Korea, and Vietnam. Allies are good and wise, but being the policeman to the world has it's price.
If it keeps us safe at home it's worth paying, but it doesn't do that so much now that our president seems to be bent on apologizing to the world for our vigilance and protection in the past, and destroying the safety of us and our allies.
